Carney Engineering Group created an additional second-floor space to the existing Allegro Lobby Donor area, the main lobby of the elliptical Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, home to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The project extended the existing two-story lobby over the facility’s gift store, with a goal of seamlessly integrating new construction that was indistinguishable from the original construction. The addition allows for increased space for high-end receptions and events for the symphony’s valued members and donors.
The addition to the existing lobby floor space was to be seamlessly incorporated into the building’s layout and design as if it was part of the original construction.
The project timeline was a short five-week start-to-finish maximum window during the symphony’s summer hiatus.
Service and Solutions
The design of a new lobby floor extension included laser scan point cloud and development of structural steel fabrication drawings directly from the BIM. To complete the project, CEG provided Building Information Modeling (BIM), Structural Engineering and Steel Detailing services.
Autodesk® Revit® Structure was used for BIM design modeling and coordination; Tekla® Structures was used for fabrication drawing work.
