Case Study

Organization: York Academy Regional Charter School
Project: Addition and renovation of existing historic industrial facility to be repurposed as a school.
Location: York, PA
Completion: 2011
Software Used: Autodesk® Revit® Structure, Tekla® Structures

Project Scope

This project links six different structures through an infill addition. The structures range in age from the mid 1800’s through the 1960’s. The entire project from design through construction was completed in less than 12-months. CEG was responsible for the structural design. The project required retention of the historic heavy timber framing in the main buildings, as well as selective demolition and reinforcing of other portions of the structure. The various buildings required modifications to align non-matching floor elevations and selective underpinning and shoring to allow for the construction of infill areas.

Challenge

This project links six different structures ranging in age from 60 years to 200 years old. Heavy timber framing in the main buildings required retention, and other portions of the structure required reinforcing and selective demonstration. This renovation and reconstruction was also coupled with new construction.

Budget

$8,000,000
