Logos Academy Charter School

Case Study

Organization: Logos Academy Charter School
Project: Charter School
Location: York, PA
Completion: 2010

Project Scope

Logos Academy, a fast growing non-profit private school located in downtown York, was in desperate need of a new facility. The original school was divided into two campuses separating kindergarten through grade 3 from grades 4 through 8. The vision for the school was to unite both campuses under one roof so that resources could be shared.

Service and Solutions

The design for the 40,000 square foot, two-story facility included a cafeteria, auditorium, library/media center, classrooms for all grades and administrative offices. The team faced many challenges including the tight urban site. It is surrounded by a waterway with a heavily used rail trail on one side and a historic neighborhood on the other making public meetings a necessity. In order to help the new facility blend into the surrounding landscape, the design retains a historic structure as a cornerstone of its overall layout.

The project included extensive use of architecturally exposed structural steel and timber framing and the salvage and reuse of an existing historic masonry tower as the street side anchor of the project. The historic stair tower and elements were laser scanned and built into the BIM.
